Introduction

Papua New Guinea as described is the land of the unexpected, according to the Summer Institute of Linguistic (SIL) based in Ukarumpa, Kainantu, the land is made of up 823 different languages out of 7000 total languages in the world. So the estimate is  12%  [823/7000 x 100% = 11.757%] of the world’s different languages are found in PNG.I do agree that this fact is correct, because in my country, you move a kilometer to a place, there is different language spoken, and there are different people with different colours, appearance and so forth.

In PNG we have 20 provinces, but I am going to base my blog stories in the Eastern Highlands province. This province lies in the heart of the country. Below is the map of Papua New Guinea and the bold in blue shows the location of Eastern Highlands Province. Where Kainantu and Onamuga community are found.

It is made up of eight different districts. Most of my ideas will come from Kainantu District, it is referred to as the smallest town in PNG but very famous. Main stories will be featuring a community called Onamuga, situated 30km away from the town of Kainantu. It is one of the rural communities that is moving from the darkness to light.

The road that leads to Onamuga is known as Okapa High Way, the road is not sealed, it is a very bumpy and leads through the big ruggard mountains to the community. It is one of the biggest community, there are total of nine different villages coming together to form this community. And all of them speak the language called “Kamano Kafe”. Following are some of the basic services that are provided in the area.

Ø  There is a Salvation Army Mission Station and following are some of the basic services it provides to people.

-          Sharing the Gospel of God

-          Health Services

-          Water Supply

-          Community engagement programs

Ø  Government Services

-           There is a community School from year 1 to year 8

-          Government Court House with its village magistrates etc

-          Vote our district Member of Parliament Representing Kainantu.

-          Comes under ward 5 where we nominate our counsels.

So further information will be based on the things mention above and how people are served. You will get to know the current status of my community, there is more needed to be done. Especially to improve the lives of people in the rural communities, it is my challenge to see change in my society for better future. At least I impart something to one person at the time to see people rising up to the standard God wants all of us to live up to.

God bless you and welcome to my Community Onamuga
